Our heritage room

The group was formed in 2007 as part of Norfolk County Council’s ARCH (Archiving Rural Community History) project. We enjoy what we do and today have over 40 members.

Our aim is to research, record and present the history of Docking in a way that encourages others to take an interest in and appreciate their local heritage.

We are a busy and active group. We have regular meetings throughout the year as well as organising other activities and events including an annual two day exhibition which has proved very popular, now attracting around 200 visitors to the event each year. It’s not all work though, we also enjoy an occasional social event like a New Year get together and a summer garden party and the occasional day out.

Some of the displays set up at our 2012 exhibition

We have a Heritage Room within the village hall which allows us to permanently display our work, making it accessible to all. The room is open most Wednesday mornings between 10am and 12 noon including through the winter months where some of our enthusiastic members will be on hand to show you around or to help with your enquiries. It can also be visited outside these times by appointment. A Community Information Point can also be found in the room which is available during the room opening hours.

You may also find us exhibiting at other selected local history events and we are also able to give talks about our group and some of its projects to any other groups or parties who are interested.

The group has many ongoing projects and we are always looking for willing volunteers to help out with these. We are open to old and young alike, resident or not, who would like to find out more about Docking’s rich heritage.
